Hazard Mayor Nan Gorman apologized for the situation that unfolded.

"I've had people call from everywhere," she said in addressing the matter last week. "You'd think we've had a murder scene up here, a massacre. ... We're all aware of tolerance here. We're not completely shadowed here by the mountains."

Below, a video report released by WKYT over the weekend on the controversy.

Kudos to the city, I think they handled this case very well.

Well done Mrs. Mayor.

Sitting on each others lap, let alone kissing and making out is inappropriate behavior at a public pool.

Being overly physically affectionate in public is inappropriate. I don't disagree with you at all on that point. The reason this has received so much attention is likely because public displays of affection between heterosexual couples are generally tolerated so long as clothes remain on and hands outside of clothing, while public displays of affection between homosexual couples are often treated much more harshly. I'm sure people in KY are very aware of what tolerance is. I'm also sure that the lifeguards on duty that day have no idea how to practice it.

You're right. Many people do find male gay affection a bit nasty and uncomfortable. It has to do with the dual natures of male homosexual sex. It can be a loving gay relationship or it can be an arse raping in prison. Many people consider being bent over and raped a serious offense and a bad thing. It is impossible to think of gay sex and not have that thought and feelings come up. Gays do not perceive heterosexual sex in the same way. If a gay man imagines himself having heterosexual sex he is likely not scared and thinking that is a horrible act to endure.

The question is : are the gay because they are retarded or are they retarded because they are gay? And this is Kentucky after all.
