On his patrol cruiser’s dash cam video, the 15-year veteran is shown walking to the burning vehicle and engaging the man behind the wheel.

“OK, get out of the car. Get out of your car,” Hornbacher says to the driver, who mumbles an unintelligible reply.

“Your car is on fire,” he says with a sense of urgency as the man climbs out of the car.

Hornbacher leads Alan Edward Blake, 32, to the curb and returns to check for passengers in the vehicle. The officer then goes back to Blake, who was arrested for second-offense operating while intoxicated, and tries to get him to understand what is happening.
