Isn't it interesting, how Republicans pick and choose which moral positions they decide they want to support? Too bad they don't knuckle under to pressure from the Catholic church on policies like this - and that the church doesn't work quite as strenuously to push social justice issues as it does with those having to do with reproduction:

On Monday, Bishop Stephen E. Blaire sent a letter to members of the House of Representatives urging them to focus on the economic security of workers at year's end.
"When the economy fails to generate sufficient jobs, there is a moral obligation to help protect the life and dignity of unemployed workers and their families," Blaire wrote. "Therefore, I strongly urge you and your colleagues to find effective ways to assure continuing Unemployment Insurance and Emergency Unemployment Compensation to protect jobless workers and their families."

Well, Rodney, they have no plan for any kind of lifting of everyone's boats (economy) and actually would LOVE to have it continue to stagnate....better argument to get rid of President Obama. So....what do they have to fall back on? Yup. Their social agenda.
If they create enough of a hullabaloo to deflect from the fact that they have NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING to offer on the economy and jobs (and unemployment), then they have to go to the fall back issues....abortion. Only now, they are throwing in contraception. The religious right have waited for their opportunity to push this, and here we go.
Bush helped set this up with his faith based initiatives (which he touted and then left to wither on the vine) and pandering to the religious right. And...here we are.
The economy is improving, there is job growth, things are beginning to look up....so what do the Republicans have? Yup, santorum.

Obama has actually continued the faith-based initiatives and has advanced them. I know that religious organizations, hospitals, charities, etc. do a world of good. I just don't think the government should subsidize religious organizations anymore than they already do (tax exempt status).

President Obama and family are the epitome of respect, love, joy and appropriate behavior and this is very offensive to some people. How dare a minority family upstage those that that don't walk the walk yet demand all others do this? Those of us that embrace diversity see President Obama and family a glowing example of America and other resent this highly.

Why aren't the bishops sending out letters to be read at every mass? Why don't they do that about the death penalty? Why didn't they do that about the invasion of Iraq? That or the hit and run their bishops do. Here in Phoenix we had a Catholic Bishop slam his Church-owned Buick into a pedestrian and then the so-called Christian left the man for roadkill. Bishop Thomas J. O'Brien hit and killed Jim Reed, leaving him for dead and the Phoenix Police found the worthless criminal trying to get his busted windshield repaired on the sly.
I am not going to be preached to about moral values by any hit and run drivers. Devils shouldn't preach. That Catholic Bishop had all the morality of a Kennedy.

Kennedy did screw up. The Bay of Pigs was one of Osama Bin Laden's favorite stories to tell about how the USA is a paper tiger. Kennedy, faced with a menacing enemy in Cuba, promised to help Cubans take their nation back from Fidel Castro, one of the most evil and murderous dictators of the 20th Century, and what did Kennedy do?
WHAT DID KENNEDY DO? It's an easy question. NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The people he promised to help got massacred.
President Kennedy is one of many reasons why NOBODY TAKES AN AMERICAN PROMISE SERIOUSLY. Nobody with a lick of sense does anyway.
Kennedy promised the Cubans help in removing Castro. They got massacred.
Johnson promised the South Vietnamese help in fighting the Viet Cong. They got massacred.
Bush41 promised the Kurds help in overthrowing Saddam Hussein. They got massacred.
Nobody in their right minds should ever believe an American politician when he says "I'm From The Government And I'm Here To Help."

Killing is exactly what ended WWII. Japan figured out that we were serious when we displayed the ability to kill every last one of them and the willingness to do exactly that.
The Japanese had threatened to fight to the death of every last man, woman and child. When it was demonstrated that the death of every last Japanese man, woman and child was a price we were willing to pay, they changed their tune and began singing Yankee Doodle Dandy.
...and after they kill a few hundred million Americans, reelection should be a breeze.
It worked for Abraham Lincoln. He killed thousands of Americans in the Civil War and he was reelected to a second term. Americans love Presidents who kill.

Don't embarrass the Navy like that, you should know your WWII history a little better than that. The event that cause Japan to surrender was not the nuclear attacks, they were willing to adsorb even more attacks, the event that caused their surrender was the fact that Stalin sent million and half troops to attack Japan. The Soviet invasion of Manchuria was the seminal event that cause the Japan's capitulation, not the nuclear attack, though I'm sure it figured into the decision.

The republicans aren't listening to ANYBODY concerning the hardships of the middle and lower classes.
That's because everybody saying the middle and lower classes are having hardships aren't worth listening to. The middle and lower classes have cell phones, cars, internet, HDTV with 300 channels on satellite, fashionable clothing and eat enough food to be the fattest poor on Earth.
What politicians in the USA call poor, people in 150 other nations would call filthy rich.
The UN Definition of Poverty: Living on less than $2 per day or $750 per year.
The USA Definition of Poverty: Living on less than $40 per day or $15,000 per year.
The US Federal Government has moved the goal posts on so-called "poverty" TWENTY TIMES BEYOND what the UN calls poverty.
I don't believe the hype. All this talk of woe and anguish among the so-called "poor" is pure hogwash.
The strategy is to make as much of the AMERICAN population as miserable as possible so that it can be used as leverage to to prevent an Obama re-election.
Nobody is miserable. There's a car in every garage and a chicken in every pot. Not to mention an iPod in every pocket, a TV in every living room, a computer in every house and free e-mail to boot.
We've got signs at soup kitchens telling the so-called "poor" to turn off their cell phones so that their ring tones don't disturb other impoverished diners.
Problem is, that a simple layman as myself as well as MANY OF US can see RIGHT THRU this strategy.

It's gotten so preposterous that President Obama has declared anyone making under $250,000 too poor to endure tax increases. Basically, in Obama's America, if you can only afford to pay cash for one house per year on your income then you're dead broke.

An Obama win wouldn't be a big deal. Obama has been a better Republican than John McCain would have been. Juan McCain would have passed amnesty for illegal aliens by now, McCain would have broken the budget deadlock making government spend even more money we don't have, and McCain wouldn't have cut Medicare like Obama did.
Obama has been more effective towards limited government than any Republican he's run against so far. Obama as a lame duck President will be even less effective and even more likely to put the brakes on government. Not that the Teleprompter-In-Chief plans to be, it's just that his own divisiveness creates the gridlock which limits government growth.
Since I want government growth limited, Obama as the Guru of Gridlock ain't a bad thing.

Good luck coming up with the down payment to buy a house next to mine with unskilled labor as your only source of income. The whole housing crash of 2008 was because of unskilled laborers trying to keep up with the Joneses through the magic of borrowing money they didn't have any ability to repay.

Solutions are not what the Land of Opportunity is about. Opportunity is about finding your own path and not being led by the hand.
My solution is simple: admit that there isn't one. Poverty is a problem so old that it was written about by Shakespeare, Dickens, Twain, and even plays prominently in the Bible, and has any solution been found? NOPE. Why not? Because there isn't a solution so it's nothing but a fool's errand to try and solve it.

I was just stating that there is just as much "whining" about whiners as there are whiners and that the "go to hell" comment is "sauce for the goose" if you get what I mean. The media is a device not an echo chamber. The healthcare companies are not going to allow anybody to mandate anything.
The calculations done to figure out healthcare costs will always be about profit. They win we lose. Healthcare is deploying the
for profit media to confuse the real issue of the debate. Is it really about appropriation? Religious people are being duped by this issue. Religious folk are more concerned with justice. You can never equate this issue with justice...
The profit from birth control can not be that high or the healthcare company would not object. This flavor of the month for republican outrage always has something to do with corporate profits. They wave the flag of patriotism to enrich oil companies
(. Exxon 4thquarter profits 8 billion). You name it, terrorism. All carry on luggage fees go up, for high price fuel because of a war...it is exhausting to listen to the excuses. This just another excuse to raise costs...
